IF I WERE A RAINDROP
Stuck inside our house on a wet and stormy day, my sister and I, faces pressed tight against the window pane, began to imagine a life lived far, far, away. She was a rodeo cowgirl, winning first prize. Then a chef in Paris, creating chocolate cream pies! I was a soldier riding a horse and a captain at sea. Then a tamer of lions and chimpanzees! But suddenly an adventure appeared closer to home in the form of a raindrop right in front of my nose! Sliding down the window at breakneck speed, I wondered where it came from and where it would it go. Then I began to dream a fantastic dream and it went something like this:
If I were a raindrop, where would I go? I would slide down a cloud to the rainbow below. I would dance on the tip of an elephant’s nose. Then relax in a meadow where the wildflowers grow.
If I were a raindrop what would I say? First, a “ping” and a “pang” when I’m heading your way. Then a “splish” and a “splash” when you come out to play. Flung into the air by a whirling wind, I would sail like a balloon up to the sky again.
Then plop into a stream where to the oceans I’d flow. And on the back of a whale, meet an Eskimo. Or maybe take a vacation with my cousin, the snow. Oh! If I were a raindrop, where would I go?
I’d do all that and more! Believe me, it’s true! Then turning to my sister I confessed with a smile, “But my favorite place to fall would be right beside you!”
